Saint-Juéry le Château

Situation - 30 km behind St Affrique direction Albi you leave the road
D999 at the junction of "Trivalle" to follow the touristic
departmental road 90 that will bring you to the village St Juéry le Château
main community of this area.
Present – more then 3 villages (St. Juéry - Farret - Ennous)
form the community of St. Juéry, spread over 2.920 ha: its surface
completely devoted to agriculture. Valleys, woods and meadows where milk
sheep are grasing with more then 25 farms producing the milk that is the raw
material for the production of the famous Roquefort. Agriculture is the most
important economical activity of this community. There is also a
furniture factory and a grossery in this little capital. Concerning the
village Farret; it has the secrets of the typical local culinary cuisine of
this small area. Except the restaurant, the inn of Farret gives a few days
shelter to the walker who wants to rest. There are two 3 or 4 star cottages
of "Liquière
basse" where you can stay summer and winter.
-
Nice to know: St Juéry le Château or St Juéry with its 2 churches:
Besides the XVIth century castle, that is still inhabited,
St Juéry has the privilege to own 2 churches; the most recent build in the
beginning of this century and the second must older in Roman style is
probably from the XIIth or XIVth century.
- Crucifixes: there
are a number of crucifixes along the 40 km long community roads. The one
at the entrance of the cemetary of St Juéry and at the entrance of the old
renaissance style church carry the symbols of the 4 evangelists with the
Holy virgin Mary and Christ.
-
Ennous: (direction of Martrin - Farret, after a km to the right) an
enchanting little village at the edge of the valley of Gos. Ennous is
a fortified hamlet showing by passers a part of an ancient castle moat,
protecting the village from outside attacks.
-
Farret has its own charm. Lying in the valley of Constantinople (between St Juéry
and Martrin), it is dominated by its ancient church. Houses still have the XVth
and XVIth century run ways (the windows of the inn).
