Brasc

Situation - On a
height varying between 230 to 660 meters, the community of Brasc is divided
between the plateau in the West and in the East, and the valley of the Tarn
in the North West . The name Brasc mend in early days roasting house.
In ancient times, in the occitan language it was called "pata negra" (the
black paw)
by the dark color of the soil. Poor soil, uncultivated, where one found
chess nut woods and where one cultivated rye and later potatoes.
Present - the
community is a pure agricultural area: pigs, cows and sheep
cultivation and the production of sheep milk (for the production of the
Roquefort cheese) and cattle trade. Only one shop remains: a bar-tabac (a
bar where one sells cigars). On the right bank of the Tarn you will find the
hydro electrical dam of La Croux. The first weekend of July is the
village party with its traditional meal. A small camp site and cottages are
awaiting you.
To visit
- In Brasc: The 15th
century crucifix of la Tourelle: on the backside it is decorated by the
virgin of the seven grieves and its pillar decorated with
sculptured faces.
- The 12th century
crucifix of La Placette: Christ on one side on the other side a niche.
- The 19th century
church
- In the surroundings:
swimming place on a recreational area with pick nick spot;
opportunity to fish trout every Sunday morning from end of April to end of
August.
- The chapel of Saint Dalmazy :
on the left bank of the Tarn, ancient place of pilgrimage for the deaf and
mute.
- Le Peyrou - the
viewing point : beautiful scenery on the Peyrebrune, the mountains of Lacaune,
the run offs of Larzac, the mountains of Lévézou and sometimes the
Pyrenees.

the foot path starting in the centre of the village lead you.
